Pepper Bear has been a therapy dog for over nine years. She often works at Childrens Hospital, making all the patients smile with the many tricks that she loves doing. Of course she also loves having her picture taken with the children. She has even learned to pose for the camera.

When we aren’t doing Animal Assisted Therapy visits, Pepper Bear and I often compete in dog agility trials. About three years ago, we were at Santa Fe Dam, attending an American Kennel Club agility event. I happened to notice a family nearby, talking to another competitor. The competitor asked me if Pepper Bear would come over and do some tricks for the family. We had to go into the ring to do a “jumpers run” at that moment, so I told the people we would be there in a few minutes. After our run, Pepper Bear and I went to visit the family --- a mother, a dad, and several children. One girl, who appeared to be about 10 years old, was in a wheelchair. When she saw Pepper Bear, she got very excited. She explained that when she had been a patient at Childrens Hospital, Pepper Bear had come to visit her and snuggled in bed with her. She said that the picture I took of her holding Pepper Bear was now taped on her bedroom wall. She was absolutely thrilled to see Pepper Bear again and give her another snuggle. There were many kisses and hugs for all.
