If anyone has ever seen Anna as she enters Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, he would never forget her with her prancing gait, her tail waving proudly like a banner, and her keen, sensitive eyes. Who would have known that this Japanese Chin mix, who our family had rescued, would become such a valuable asset to CHLA.For over a year it has been a pleasure to be her team member with the Animal Assisted Therapy organization, Love On 4 Paws. Anna loves to snuggle with the children at CHLA as well as be held by the Nurses and staff members. I will never forget one particular experience Anna and I shared with a 15 year old young man who was in the Intensive Care Unit. We were told that this young man had never smiled during his stay in the I.C.U. Anna and I came to pay him a visit, and from the moment Anna placed her head on the boys chest and looked into his eyes, he broke the widest, happiest smile I have ever seen. His mother asked us to return a couple of times during the next two weeks, and the very same thing happened. This great joy was not only brought to him, but to his mother, myself and I suspect to Anna as well. Two weeks after this boy left CHLA, he and his family adopted their own Japanese Chin, because of their experience with Anna. It is a privilege to be a part of such a giving and loving organization as Love On 4 Paws. We are all truly blessed. |
